Seeing Mermaid

Batangas.

The world under the sea is amazing.

I went diving with the lovely couple Dang and Igor Subora of Ocean Zone Explorers. The experience was priceless.

I was a little hesitant at first since I suffer a mild sinus problem. Nothing that a good Sinutab cannot fix. :) After a lecture about the basics of diving, I put on my gear, and jumped into the water.

I was told by Dang and Igor, that the Philippines is one of the best places to dive. That’s something coming from a couple that goes around the world to see what sits at the bottom of their oceans.

I guess Sebastian did have a point there. The sights are really pretty, and the fishies did seem happy with their little coral homes. I love seeing life, and seeing it thrive in a different environment. It reminds me of how many different worlds exist in this big one we share (something that one must never forget).

If you’ve been wanting to go diving, here are some of the things you must keep in mind:

1. When under water, do not panic. Flopping around will not help you in any way. It is always better to float calmly. This also prevents accidental damage to the corals which are homes to the fishies.
2. Remember the hand signals. Your instructor will teach you a few hand signals that will enable communication under water. (Unfortunately, the signs don’t enable you to talk to the fishies)
3. Stay with the team. One may easily be distracted by all the space. Do not swim blindly into them. Stay with the team and do not go wandering alone.
4. Just like swimming, releasing air makes you sink.
