MacKay Hotel Bill is a Non-Issue

A tempest is brewing in Ottawa about Defence Minister Peter MacKay’s hotel bills in Europe after questions were raised by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

Mr. MacKay failed the test in the recent helicopter use brouhaha, but the hotel bill is a different story.

European hotels are expensive.  They charge rates that would make a Toronto innkeeper blush.  So it was going to be an expensive trip right from the start.

Beyond that, Mr. MacKay is the Defense Minister attending a defense conference, so he’s going to stay in the same hotel as the others.  Where the security arrangements have been made.  Do we want our defence minister staying at the Holiday Inn Express two blocks over?

We should stop being so provincial and concentrate on the real issues, not distractions like this.
